🌸Devotion: A Quieted Soul

Psalm 131:2–3 (NASB)

“Certainly I have calmed and quieted my soul;

Like a weaned child resting against his mother,

My soul within me is like a weaned child.

Israel, wait for the Lord

From this time on and forever.”

Life often pulls us into cycles of striving — striving to be understood, striving to be healed, striving to fix what only God can restore. Yet David’s words remind us that peace doesn’t come from effort; it comes from surrender. He learned to still his soul like a child resting in a mother’s arms — safe, nourished, and loved.

This image paints a picture of trust without tension. The weaned child no longer cries for constant need but rests in relationship. Likewise, when we mature in faith, we learn to rest in who God is, not in what we can do.

When your heart feels weary or your emotions feel stormy, God gently calls, “Be still, My child.” He invites you to stop running and simply lean into His presence. You don’t have to understand the season — you only need to know you’re held.

Reflection:

  • What area of your life needs calming today?

  • Can you picture yourself resting in God’s arms, even when things feel uncertain?

Prayer:

Lord, calm my striving heart. Teach me to rest in Your love, not my own strength.

Quiet my soul like a weaned child so I may find peace in simply being with You.

Help me to wait for You in faith — today and forever.

Amen.
